COVID FAQ
CRAG X AND COVID FAQ
What climbing is available?
All of it. Top-rope, lead-climbing, bouldering and auto-belay are all available.
What’s my chance of getting COVID19 at Crag X?
We don’t know. We do know that BC Health has determined the risk in the province is low enough to reopen climbing gyms. We also know the changes we are making will help to minimize risk of transmission. We hope climbers will be COVID Minimizers too.
What about Crag X makes it less likely?
We are a large open space and climbing is a sport where close contact is not necessary. Climbers are good at learning about risk and making sure to act in a way to minimize risk. Crag X staff are conscientious people who you can count on to do what they can to minimize the danger. Crag X climbers are good people too, we are more than just a room full of strangers.
What about air quality?
Our building has 0% air recirculation. The HVAC system draws air in and pumps it out of the building, replacing it with 100% fresh air from outside. Every two hours or so the air is completely switched over.
Is it true that I have to wear a mask?
Right now you do not have to wear a mask, but we welcome those that decide it is best for them.
What about the Proof of Vaccination rule?
There is no longer a requirement to show proof of vaccination.
What about touching things?
We designed Crag X to have very few high touch areas. You can enter a bathroom, wash your hands, dry your hands and return to climbing all without touching a single surface. We are increasing our cleaning during the day.
You didn’t mention holds!
Touching holds is climbing. We can’t clean holds between climbers, so our focus is on keeping the holds clean. Wearing a face covering keeps droplets off the holds and good hand hygiene means holds are touched with clean hands. Keeping hands out of eyes and off your face will keep you healthy. Washing your hands after climbing completes the effort needed for climbing in the time of CV19. WorksafeBC is on board with our method.
I want to get into climbing but don’t know any of that stuff. What are my options?
Book a Beginner Lesson with us and we will show you everything you need to know to become a climber. Book here.
How do you know you are doing the right thing?
We helped to create the guidelines for reopening climbing gyms by being on provincial, national and international groups of owners and experts. We are making conservative plans with the best information we have available. We pledge to change those plans when the information or advice changes. You can read the guidelines here.
