Rope-A-Dope
Rope a Dope
The comp for people who don’t enter comps.
Rope-A-Dope isn’t about walking up and crushing it. Rope-A-Dope is a comp about getting better over a few weeks and testing yourself against your own goals at the end.
What makes it different? We put the routes up ahead of the comp final! No surprises. You’ll have lots of time to practice the routes and perfect the movement and mental game it takes to get to the top. On Fight NIght you pick four of the 24 comp routes and try to send them in one day. We’ll add up the points and have a SuperFinal for the top folks to fight it out for the belt. But that’s just for fun and glory and gives us all an excuse to drink beers and watch our friends climb!
Know enough? Rope-A-Dope signup is open now. $35 gets you entry and a sweet t-shirt if you sign up by midnight on March 9th.
Don’t have a membership? $100 gets you a March membership (Our regular one month is $138)
Wan’t to do it on lead? Use code ROPEADOPE to get $20 off a lead course.
First routes go up starting March 3. Fight Night final happens March 29.

ROPE - A - DOPE FAQ
How does scoring work?
You only get points for sending a route on March 29 at Fight Night. On fight night you fill out your Fight Card with the four routes you are going to try that day. Once you write your four routes down, no changing them, so be strategic about which ones you pick! Go for certain sends or push for something a little harder. It’s all up to you.
Do I have to pick lead or toprope?
Nope, you can decide to climb each route in whatever style you like. Lead bonus is per route, mix and match as you like.
When will I see the comp routes?
Comp routes start going up March 3 and stay up until Fight Night. 24 routes in all. Some routes you’ll have four weeks to work on, the last routes go up four days before the final.
How many points are each route worth?
The points for each route will be posted on the last week of the comp. Harder routes will be worth more points. We will leave it up to you to strategize with your fellow competitors!
What is Fight Night?
Fight Night is the last day of the competition - March 29th. It’s not actually at night. The gym will be open regular hours, and competitors can come in throughout the day to try to send their top 4 routes. The top point scorers will compete in a SUPERFINAL showdown on the evening of March 29th and climb until we have a winner!
The SUPERFINAL is LEAD ONLY! Not a lead climber (yet)? Use code ROPEADOPE to get $20 off the lead course.
Not in the SuperFinal? Stick around to enjoy a beer or two while you reminisce on all your hard work and cheer on your fellow competitors as they go for all the glory.
I’m not really a comp climber. Why should I do this?
Rope-a-Dope is a different kind of comp. Instead of rewarding onsite flashes on the day, Rope-A-Dope rewards climbers that can put the effort in and work a route. The more you climb the better you get at the routes. We all know that if you want to climb harder, you have to push yourself to climb a little harder. Rope-A-Dope is the comp that rewards trying hard.
Any tips to get better?
You bet! Every week we’ll have a mini-technique session that gives you important advice on getting better and training harder. Tuesday and Friday nights the whole comp through - competitors only!
